How often should you wash your face?
Twice a day, and after heavy sweating. The American Academy of Dermatology says washing more than that is not needed, and sweat left on skin can irritate it.
The routine
Wash once in the morning and once at night, and as soon as you can after sweating heavily, especially under a hat or helmet.
How to wash
Use a gentle, non-abrasive cleanser without alcohol, lukewarm water, and your fingertips. Rinse and pat dry with a soft towel.
When to stop
Stop a product and see a board-certified dermatologist if you get burning, swelling, blistering, hives, or symptoms that get worse. Get urgent help for trouble breathing or swelling of the face or lips.
